The spectre of inflation has returned to stalk the UK economy, as the post-referendum slump in the pound has driven up the cost of imported goods from petrol to tea, fish and smartphones.

Scottish Power customers have just seen their standard dual-fuel bill jump by an average of £86 a year. Npower dual-fuel bills have just gone up by 9.8%, leaving some customers £110 worse off.

Co-op Energy dual-fuel customers face increases of about £58 a year. British Gas, which has 11 million business and household customers, is the only big energy provider not to have announced price rises, but it is expected to follow suit in the summer.

Fantastic feedback from our presentation on our business and the energy markets.

Thank you to everyone who attended the event.

Last weekend’s sunny weather was not only a pleasant surprise for everyone, but also drove solar power to break a new UK record.

For the first time ever, the amount of electricity demanded by homes and businesses in the afternoon on Saturday was lower than it was in the night, because solar panels on rooftops and in fields cut demand so much.

This milestone shows the balance of power is shifting, quite literally, away from the old centralised ‘coal-by-wire’ model into the hands of householders, businesses and communities all over the UK who want their own clean solar power.

Solar power installations grew dramatically in 2014 and 2015, but new capacity largely collapsed in 2016 after the government axed and reduced subsidies.

A government spokesman said: “This government wants Britain to be one of the best places in the world to invest in clean, flexible energy. Solar power is a great success, with over 11GW of capacity installed in the last five years that’s enough to power more than 2.6 million homes with clean electricity.”

National Grid, which runs the transmission network, described the moment as a “huge milestone”. The company sees the solar power generated on the distribution networks – or local roads of the system – as reduced electricity demand.

We're blushing! Very kind words from an manufacturing client in West Yorkshire.

Karen Tremaine, C&C, said: "Michael was highly professional yet friendly and trustworthy. We immediately felt at ease and confident in what he was saying to us. Although Switched On Energy sell energy, they are not typical sales people only out for a quick sale.

We are very pleased with the price and the service we received and would highly recommend Switched On Energy to any company for their energy needs."

After many years of the 'big six' suppliers hiking prices for households across the UK, Theresa May has been urged by 50 MPs to issue an energy price cap on the ‘Big Six’ companies to prevent millions of Brits from being ripped off.

Many households are paying more than they need to for energy and after the recent prices hikes from many of the UK suppliers, is it now that the Government finally do something about it?

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as it sounds. Many factors affect what price you pay for your electricity and gas. From geographic location to meter type to contract terms. So it's going to be interesting to see how the government plans to rectify the issue.

If you think you're paying too much, get in touch and see how much you can save today.

March may be a month of finally decent weather in the UK, but it's also the month where many of you will see your energy bills rise.

Npower’s 9.8% increase £109 per year rise
Good Energy's 11% increase £118 per year rise
Eon's 8.8% increase £97 per year rise
First Utility's 9.7% increase £102 per year rise
Utilita Energy's 2.9% increase £50 per year rise

Many other suppliers like OVO and Co-Operative are also warning of a price hike this month, adding between £60- £120 to your annual bill.

But....there is something you can do. Switch to a better deal now to avoid them completely! Give us a call, to get a better deal today!

If you haven't switched your energy supplier at home in 3 years, you just got very popular!

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) proposed that anyone who has been on a standard tariff for three years or more will have their details put on a central database.

Once on the database, the other 36 suppliers in the UK energy market can then pitch for their custom, by sending letters proposing a 'cheaper alternative.'

Rhys Boven, Managing Director of Switched On Energy, said: "This is just going to cause more frustration and confusion for customers. The residential energy market is already complicated, with many different tariffs available with different rates, terms and benefits.

Like the seen in Harry Potter, customers are just going to get bombarded with sales letters, pleading they are the best advice for them. Sharing customer data in the hope that the least engaged customers, stuck on the most expensive tariffs, will switch is not what I would immediately think of doing. I think the answer would be to survey these customers who haven't switched in 3 or more years, and see what's the primary reason. I'm confident that a lot would express their disliking to the 'big six' and giving their personal data to an 'army' of suppliers, is not going to help.

If you haven't switched in a while and would like to see how much you could save, call us on 01943 609213.
